Our Social Science Committee

Social science research explores people, communities and society. It includes research involving interviews, surveys, focus groups, observations, programme evaluations and other studies that seek to understand human experiences, behaviours and social systems.

This pathway is intended for research that does not include a health intervention or other components requiring review through our health ethics review pathway.

Our fees

$4,000 NZD (exclusive of GST), subject to annual review.

This reflects the expertise required for this process. Expedited review is available at additional cost, staggered according to your timeline. Please contact us to discuss what you need.

Our timeline

We understand that timely review is important. Our standard review timeframe is 18 days from receipt of a complete application, with expedited review options available for time-sensitive projects. Timeframes may vary if revisions are required during the review process.

At the heart of The Collective is our community of independent ethics reviewers. Our committee members bring diverse expertise and lived experience from across research, government, healthcare, academia, community organisations and Māori leadership.

Our submission

Once you've prepared your application, simply email these to our Secretariat to begin the review process. We'll acknowledge receipt, check that everything required has been provided, and guide you through any next steps. We are very happy to work with you during your preparation.
