The Social Sciences Committee

Annabel sat on the University of Canterbury human research ethics committee for many years, and is currently a member of the Health Research Council Māori Health Committee.

Gordon has been involved in disability advocacy for many years, has been a member of the National Ethics Advisory Committee, and is a member of the Aotearoa research ethics committee.

Lucy is currently the deputy chair of the Aotearoa research ethics committee, having served on it for at least 10 years. Lucy is a journalist.

Mike started reviewing ethics applications in 2003 and was chair of the University of Canterbury human research ethics committee from 2007-2012. He currently reviews for the Aotearoa research ethics committee.

Nik is currently completing his LLB/BA at the University of Otago, with a focus on bioethics.  He recently completed a summer internship assisting the Ethics and Integrity Lead at the Health Research Council.

Jacinta is currently co-chair of the University of Canterbury human research ethics committee.

Eemun is managing director of Ethnic Research Aotearoa, a principal consultant with MartinJenkins and sits on the Aotearoa research ethics committee.

Ed is a senior researcher in the school of School of Earth and Environment, who has sat on the University of Canterbury human research ethics committee for many years. 

Erik is a Adj Assoc Professor at the University of Canterbury who works at e3consulting.  He sat on the University ethics committee for over 5 years, and has taught and published in the field of research ethics in educational research.

Darryl is a senior lecturer at Massey University and spent many years on the Massey human research ethics committee. He currently teaches in area of Human Resource Management & Research Methods.

Sebastian (Tangata Tiriti) is a researcher, interdisciplinary artist, educator, and human research ethics consultant working in Aotearoa New Zealand. His scholarship and creative practice are situated at the intersection of critical inquiry and community-based collaboration, with particular attention to how participatory methodologies can be mobilised in pursuit of meaningful social change.

Peter is a Senior Researcher and Environmental Social Scientist specialising in landscape policy and governance at Manaaki Whenua – Landcare Research. He holds a PhD in Philosophy, MSc in International Environmental Science, and a BSc.

Andrew is a technical expert across the computing spectrum, from reconfigurable hardware to artificial intelligence and machine learning.

Matt is a Senior Lecturer in Research Methods and Methodologies at Massey University, School of Psychology. His interests are in two main areas: Methodology and metapsychology, and Misinformation and beliefs in conspiracies.

Oliver is a qualified lawyer, who has previous work experience at the Health and Disability Commissioner as a recommendations analyst. He has experience in complaints assessments and land settlements.

Filipo Katavake-McGrath (Kāti Huirapa ki Arowhenua raua kō Puketeraki, Tonga) is an economist and qualitative researcher with a focus on the social and economic equity of communities who have been publicly targeted by politicians and the media over many decades.

David is an experienced geoscientist who undertook lecturing, research, and postgraduate supervision in the School of Science at the University of Waikato, Hamilton, for more than 40 years. He specialises in studying soils in the landscape, particularly those derived from volcanic ash, and characterising and dating volcanic-ash layers and using them to date environmental change.

Pascarn (Tangata Tiriti) is a social impact measurement expert and researcher specialising in wellbeing, data ethics, and good research engagement practice. At Huber Social, he supports varied organisations internationally to robustly measure their impact in wellbeing terms, in addition to advising the Huber Social Ethics Review Board.
